The title of this thread is a little misleading.0

often confused royal mail is not the post office so you really need to change the title. Can't say I'm surprised. I've seen how post offices are run these days. Royal mail has been cutting out the post office for a long time now.Royal mail trying to compete against EVRI, yodel etc and providing click and drop services so customers dont need to go the post office. I personally just do click and drop and take it to the royal mail depot to process (dont even take it to post office because they give me the cold shoulder because I haven't spent any money with them.On the few occasions I've see how long it takes them to process post. You take a packet to them with computer printed letter, they manually peel a recorded delivery sticker and attach it, manually enter the address (verify it), then they print the postage.I dont know how much share they get from the £2.85 large letter signed for post. Maybe 20p? 10p? who knows. It's a LOT of work for them and increasingly royal mail is cutting them out.So it's not surprise they are planning on taking evri and other services to get people through the door so they can make money on standard conveience store purchases. My local post office is depressing, i just saw the lady skimp on money. Some customer put a stamp on a freepost return envelope. She keot it aside and when the customer went away she peeled off the stamp and put it aside to sell to someone else.I thought that was really cheeky - but that's how desperate they are to get a few shekels.

Depending on your view of things this is privatisation and capitalism working wonders or it's a race to the bottom. Personally I prefer the Royal Mail of the past rather than the service it offers today competing with low cost couriers who throw parcels around and leave them outside your door.

"The tie-up will be trialled in 50 Post Offices before Christmas, where customers can find an Evri ParcelShop self-service device within the branch."If they're lucky the label printer on it might occasionally work.1

Royal Mail increasing their large letter thickness from 2.5 to 3cm matching Evris postable parcel size might help them retain some sales.

Just read the link above and at the bottom it makes out that postable letters get photographed and tracked!0 -

I find may items are within 2.5cm but even air in the envelope can make it measure slightly more. 3cm seem about right for some reason.1
