MSE News: Surge in energy firms switching people onto prepay meters remotely – your rights

It would be carnage the first time someone got their power turned off because they happened to put the kettle on when someone was in the power shower.
Most people don't know how much they use so would just sign up for the cheapest (then complain when they got cut off) or the most expensive (and then complain that they weren't getting good value). Just like mobile phone data allowances.0 -
Not sure what to respond on that other than it shows our consumers need educating if we cannot handle advanced tariffs? as its working in other countries,0

I agree, but who's going to do the educating? People understandably don't trust the government, and unfortunately the people who most need educating are more likely (than those who don't need much/any educating) to subscribe to the theory that suppliers are just out to rip people off, so suppliers are unlikely to get very far with it either.Chrysalis said:Not sure what to respond on that other than it shows our consumers need educating if we cannot handle advanced tariffs? as its working in other countries,0 -
Yep, so many on here think e.g. TOU tariffs are here to rip people off and cost more.Spoonie_Turtle said:
