Santander direct debit help please !

Hi there.
I forgot to transfer the money over for my direct debits so this morning two of them have not been taken.
Does anyone know if they will try again at all ?
And will I be charged for this ?
I am kicking myself right now !
Any knowledge will be greatly appreciated as I don’t seem to have any paperwork for this account. Thanks in advance.

Most organisations will make a second attempt at no cost.

    Do not fret.

Have you now made the transfer? I'd expect them to make a second attempt, probably this afternoon, but that'll also fail unless you've transferred money in by then. FWIW, my recollection is that Nationwide's deadline for getting money in before a second attempt is 1430. I don't know what Santander's is, but it'd be best to make the transfer ASAP (if you haven't already done it). As long as the money's in place for the second attempt, I wouldn't expct any charges to arise.

For a definitive answer, it'd be best to talk to Santander.
  • Thanks everyone. I’ve had a text to say they’ll try again after 2pm.
I’ve made the transfer so hopefully it will be ok.

Glad you sorted it. Might be an idea to set up a SO if you can so that it doesn't happen again?

Santander don't charge a "refused payment fee" and since the company say they'll retry I wouldn't expect any fees from them either. I did remember getting a fee from TSB a few years ago for refusing a DD collection though, £15 at the time!
  • My direct debits were successfully taken later in the day so hopefully that will be the end of it.
Thanks all for the reassurance !
