14 months of faulty meter and estimated bills

Hi All,

For the past 14 months my electricity smart meter has been broken and has not displayed or submitted a meter reading. During this time, I've repeatedly asked my supplier to replace the meter and finally today I have a replacement smart meter.

The meter engineer who fitted the replacement has confirmed there is no way to get a reading from the old one, so the new one starts at zero. During this time, my supplier has sent me estimated bills which have been paid by direct debit.

I feel like paying bills based on guesswork through no fault of my own for such a long period is a tough one to swallow and all my attempts at frugal electricity usage have been for nothing. Is anyone aware of precedence or my rights regarding the long period of estimated bills?

Thanks

BF
