Interestingly, the "solar generator" failures seen so far and reported on the internet seem to mostly be the electronics rather than the battery. Seems the LFP cells are quite reliable but the supporting systems aren't.

    @[Deleted User] - increased petrol consumption - didn't know that - Thanks!
Also really helpful comments @Deleted_User about the type of batteries and their life expectance
One of the kids said: "if you spent the same amount of your cash on the electricity bill you'd pay for some energy and then it's gone forever - but if you buy a solar generator it'll (hopefully) be around for a few years and we'll all get some use out of it and it might - if we look after it and domestic bills keep rising - even pay for itself at some point in the future" I guess there is some logic in that, who knows.
Not being very technically minded I'm drawn to the simplicity of the Jackery but even I can see it's very much more expensive than other less hyped brands. I really do need 'plug and play' for this sort of thing.

Spot on - there's a big difference between lithium-ion (LiPo) which is the same as phone batteries etc, often listed as 300-500 full charge cycle equivalent, and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4), expected 3500-5000 cycles (and I've seen some over 7000 in tests).
Not all cells are equal though and there is a variety of different materials in use for lithium-ion cells.
The Tesla Powerwall uses lithium-ion and is warranted to be at 80% of initial capacity (13.5kWh) after 10 years.
If you just solar charge and self-consume there is no other limit on the warranty, if you grid charge then there is a limit of 37.8MWh of output (roughly 10kWh/day).
