Am I entitled to park there?

My wife does not drive so I take her to a women's only gym and I either sit in the car or go for a walk, leaving the car parked in the gym car park

There is a sign saying parking for gym members only and it is free but there is pay for parking nearby.

If I go for a walk I can be seen getting out of the car and leaving the car park.

My wife has been told to tell me to park elsewhere as there have been instances of the car park being full and female members of the gym being unable to park in the car park and I am sitting in my car playing candy crush on my phone.

The sessions are only 30 minutes long so it is not worthwhile me going home and coming back.

If my wife drove and parked the car there would be no problem though I don't know what the situation would be if she drove the car and I accompanied her as a passenger.

So am I entitled to park there?

Short answer: yes. You can park there.  An occupant of the car is using the gym.

Other answer: is there nowhere on-street round the corner, to give up your space for another arriving gym member?

Of course, if the gym ever put up ANPR and signs from a PPC, you must read them and ensure you accompany her inside and input your numberplate to exempt the car from £100 scam charges.

Once parked, slide over and sit in the passenger seat, then the more likely assumption could be that the 'driver' is using the gym.

Is that a sign placed by the gym or by a private parking company (PPC)? If the latter, which PPC?

    Placed by the gym.

If there are no PPC signs I wouldn't be overly concerned. But do have a very close look next time you are there, and particularly for an ANPR camera high up on a pole or existing lamppost near the entrance to the car park.

  • Drive out and wait on the street/space nearest to gym and then pick her up or she walks out of the car park into your car.

There isn't anywhere nearby to park for free and also what I can't understand is if my wife drove into the car park and parked nothing would be said.

Someone was waiting to park their car and thought I was going to just drop her off and leave, however I parked the car and got out to go for a walk and they were not happy and complained.

I think I will look out the l-plates and let her park, I wonder what will be said then?

I'll just have to make sure she doesn't drive into the wall.
