Neighbourhood cat messing on our lawn!

Hi everyone, hoping someone could give me some advise! We've had a few lovely new cats in our area over the last year or so, but we're finding that one of them is using our lawn as it's litter tray.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can stop this happening, we haven't been able to identify exactly which cat it is, I'm assuming an un-neutered male
Many thanks in advance :-)

Are you sure it's a cat and not a fox or something else?
Keeping the lawn cut short helps.
Water pistol when you see it, with the aim that it decides somewhere else is less hassle.
A sprinkling of chilli powder in dry weather but that's no use when its raining.
All the scarers etc are a waste of money. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
A fox poo stinks a mile and cat does not
I started a thread recently, good advice etc but we shall see
On lawns, red chili pepper has worked for us. concentrate on their entry/exit points if knows near the age and then a bit all over - like I said it worked for us over the30/40 years a few times. You need to repeat the red chili as rain washes it away and damp/fog/mist weaken the effect.1 -
I thought once someone was letting a dog poop on my lawn (open front garden) ... Not so, I witnessed the large cat leaving a deposit with my own eyes!
Cats usually prefer to dig but while it's more likely to be a fox a cat can't be ruled out.1 -
Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your comments
There are a couple of other cats that do dig so at least they are tidy!
Defintely cat poo by the smell!0 -
One of my friends had a cat sprinkler which seemed to work- very small garden.
When cat walked through the beam it got sprayed!
cats hate water so if you spray with a water pistol it might take flight seeing you.
Google motion activated sprinklers
Moth balls& lion poo don't seem to work but cats hate citrus smells.
Fox & cat leavings are very different in 'nature' and smell!
A cat shape with reflective eyes might put it off
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Same problem, although we have a neighbour who lets their dog use the shared access lane as a toilet and doesn't always clear up after it as well. Urgh.
I have tried chilli powder, citrus peel (does seem to work on beds) and a high frequency scarer. Interested to know other ideas!0 -

Make up a mixture of chilli powder, garam masala, turmeric and paprika and sprinkle it around the area where it poos. As it only costs pennies, you can make and apply more if it rains. You can also use a piece of card (put a small hole in the middle and a simple slit to the edge, then put it round the plant then stick the plastic spikes used as rug grippers. The cat will find it uncomfortable and will go elsewhere. The advantage of this is that you can use a waterproof spray so it’s not affected by rain.1

Covering a whole lawn is different from dealing with a small area.
You can get sonic deterrents that cats do not like but will not disturb other animals. Google will help you.
