Thank you for the replies so far.

Learnt their parent will refuse to house going forward. They live outside of London, wanted to explore the avenue of social or council housing, for two adults (one on PIP & ESA - disabilities), for the application regarding saving or account balance certain threshold for either adult? Is there an income limit for the one adult that is working and claiming no benefits?

They really need to use a benefits calculator, put their details in as if already renting.

It will all depend on whether they are living together as a couple of or as joint tenants.

Savings threshold for Universal Credit is £16,000 (between them, if as a couple).  Savings over £6,000 will cause a deduction of £4.35 per month for every £250/part thereof over £6,000.  If the other adult needs to claim UC (individually or as a couple) any income-based ESA will cease, any remaining ESA (contributions-based or new-style) will be deducted from UC in full.

PIP is disregarded as income, but if it's an individual claim will give that adult a maximum whole bedroom entitlement if they're under 35 instead of just the shared accommodation rate.  If they claim as a couple, entitlement will be one bedroom between them.

Actual income 'limit' is determined by the UC entitlement, 55% of earnings are deducted.  If claiming as a couple, the first £344 of earnings would be ignored because of the other adult's limited capability for work.

I understand that these things are relative to area, earnings etc.  but myself and my OH rent privately and only me of the two of us works.  Yes its very tight at times living on one wage, but it is do-able if you cut your cloth accordingly (and move away from London).

The two of us manage on one wage, so one person should be able to

On a previous post you say your friend's ex partner is denying access to the child without a mental health report.

Is this the same person he is thinking of moving n with now?

    No.

    It's two sibling.

They are not looking to claim any further benefits like housing benefit, etc. If they could secure a social house, it's for stability, health and space (as they have no where else) which makes it easier for their ill sibling.
