DLA mobility and AA

Hi, asking on behalf of my mum. She’s received an ongoing DLA mobility payment at high rate for the past 20 years or more, but nothing for care. Now in her 80’s she has care needs. If she applied for AA, could she continue receiving her DLA mobility? The citizens advice website states she could, but gov.uk appear to say no. Can anyone help please?

No. She can ask DLA to look at the care part of DLA and assess her eligibility for that. You cannot be on a mixture of AA and DLA mobility and there is no mobility component with AA. I assisted a client recently who accidently ordered an AA form which I helped him complete, then after doing that he mentioned a motorbility car ! I rang AA and they said to send the form anyway but they would assess for DLA care component and he was awarded that alongside the mobility.3

Thanks Rubyroobs
Do you know if she might lose her DLA award and be assessed for PIP instead if she starts messing with her DLA claim?0 -

Do you know if she might lose her DLA award and be assessed for PIP instead if she starts messing with her DLA claim? She can't claim PIP because she was born before 9th April 1948. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/before-claiming/if-you-get-dla/Whether there's any risks to her high rate mobility award here, i have no idea but hopefully someone will have more knowledge with this than i have, will advise on this. .

As Rubyroots says she should notify a worsening condition to DLA, and not put in a new claim for AA.
That way she will retain her mobility award (AA does not have a mobility component), and hopefully also get a care element added to it.
It is worth you googling DLA on Citizens Advice adviceguide for information about DLA , the care element, and notifying a worsening condition
