House sale no chain taking 5 months

Our house sold back in June and as far as I am aware mortgage is in place all searches are back all enquiries have been answered but buyers solicitors will not discuss exchange or dates?! I don’t understand what else there could be to delay the process

  • And whenever I speak to my solicitors or estate agents all they come back with is we are pressing buyer for a date for exchange and completion which has been going on for weeks
  • You should ask your solicitor to ask them. Or ask your estate agent to chase them. Or both. There are a lot of possible reasons, we can probably give you some to worry about but really you should try to find out from them first.

Same here..it's been 5 months and 3 weeks. Is it a solicitor recommended by a big estate agent chain? Perhaps they are looking to stall until after Xmas?
  • No both myself and seller are using independent solicitors who iv used before during the pandemic which were really quick and efficient then! No chain either side and everything else completed I just can’t see what is taking so long
  • Our chain-free purchase has also been dragged on for months. Offer was accepted end of June. The main delay is very much in our vendor’s solicitor, which is PB recommended solicitor. They are just the worst…

Have all the enquiries been satisfied? This is what’s holding us up at the moment. If it’s all done and just a case of the buyer not giving a date I would do as a PP suggested and put forward a completion date that works for you and see what they come back with.
they  may be thinking they don’t want to move before Christmas and are trying to stall
  • Spoken to my solicitors this afternoon and they still didn’t have an update as the last time they spoke or heard anything from buyers solicitors was 4th November? Surely this isn’t normal

That's only 5 working days.  Sounds as though you're not quite there yet.  Don't forget that today (Friday) is often very busy for conveyancers as Fridays are very popular completion days.
  • Suggest a date (or ask they give one) and say if you don’t hear back you will put back on the market in hope that prompts a response…?
