Scared and confused

Options
Not sure what I am asking. I had breast cancer 9 years ago and it has now returned. I am having surgery next week. I have a supportive partner but I am just full of anxiety to the extent I can no longer work or function normally. I sort of can’t believe I have cancer again and I worry that may make me make the wrong decisions.

  • So sorry to hear this news. You must be feeling totally overwhelmed and devastated :(
Have you contacted the Macmillan nurses? They have a wealth of support and information and will be able to help both you and your partner to navigate this together.
Sending you hope and all good wishes :)

Hugs. Other than your partner, what other support has been offered? Do contact the centre where you are receiving care or your GP and say that you badly need to speak to someone. And there is also:

https://coppafeel.org/ - especially if you are a younger person.

Sorry to hear the cancer is back.

Get in touch with MacMillan as they will help put your mind at ease.

A friend of mine with two very young children is going through this at the moment. She has found online groups (Instagram/Facebook) with others going through the same thing have been helpful, so that her husband doesn't have to be her only support.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I'm so sorry to read your post. I had breast cancer in 2010 and every day it is somewhere in the back of my mind that it could come back. It is the gift that keeps on giving! Have you been signed off work? Do you have a named cancer care nurse at your hospital, and/or can you talk to your GP? It's not everyone's cup of tea but you could ask about counselling and/or getting some anti-depressant or anxiety medication to help you get through?
