Comparison of Energy Price Guarantee Tariffs - Share yours here
I have been comparing tariffs with friends and whilst there is a cap on the maximum £2500 amount, the way the tariffs are implemented seems to vary, some seem to charge a lower Standing Charge and higher energy rate or vice versa. It occurred to me that this community might wish to compare the rates in case they desire to change supplier based on their usage.

All of Octopus' SVT rates here https://octopus.energy/blog/energy-price-cap-oct-2022/
They've even done the calculations for "typical usage" for each region for easy comparison.1 -

EDF Eastern rates are exactly the same as yours. The important things in life are not things ........1

The OP is correct. This was mentioned on Martin Lewis' TV show the other day. There are differences in both unit rates and standing charges not just between companies, but between regions.QrizB said:kroggy said:I have been comparing tariffs with friends and whilst there is a cap on the maximum £2500 amount, the way the tariffs are implemented seems to vary, some seem to charge a lower Standing Charge and higher energy rate or vice versa. This seems unlikely, considering how the EPG has been implemented on top of the Ofgem cap.How does your friend's tariff differ from yours?

No, there isn't. The £2500 is as indicative price for a "typical" household using 2,900kWh of electricity & 12,000kWh of gas per annum. Use more & you will pay more, use less & you will pay less.kroggy said:I have been comparing tariffs with friends and whilst there is a cap on the maximum £2500 amount,
There are regional variations allowed & suppliers can (within limits) vary their unit rates & standing charges to achieve that figure.6 -

You can see EDF's complete table here:I don't think anyone's going to move house simply for a fractionally lower EPG tariff, though?Differences betweeen suppliers are, on the whole, tiny - unless you've got E7 in which case it can be worth switching. There have been several threads about that already.

My Octopus E7 tariff is
day 37.38p
night 14.89p
SC 44.35p
and gas10.31p
SC 26.84That’s eastern region. The gas is much of muchness against anyone else’s rates obviously but the E7 rate might be of interest to some. Should also be remembered that 🐙 do a small reduction on the SC.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

No I think you're right. Possibly too much effort for little return. But I'm considering moving from So Energy as their customer service have been appalling for me recently, I'm considering moving to Octopus because they have better service ratings, they offer £50 credit through refer a friend, and it's just a bonus that their standing charge is less (Oh and I'm warming to CEO Greg Jackson) . I prefer a smaller standing charge and a higher unit rate because I'm in control of the amount of electricity I use, but I can't change the standing charge."a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire."0 -
Many thanks for your contribution, I have added your rates to the first post. Hopefully others will post the rates they are paying.superstylin said:

I'd ignore anything that isn't a multi-rate tariff. None of the other differences actually mean anything.kroggy said:
