Hello All - looking for some guidance/advice

Recieved a letter from EoN Next today telling me that they have moved me onto their variable tariff.

Within the letter they state they have done this because I was on a tariff that was more expensive than the Energy Price Guarentee (which is is true, I moved onto ONLINE_V18 7th October Electricity Unit price 54.01p per kWh Standing charge 37.92p per day Gas Unit price 13.33p per kWh Standing charge 27.22p per day). the V18 tariff for me started from 7th October 2022 until same date 2023.

They also state that they state that "reducing your prices was our decision and not a govt. requirement).

However, if I apply the EDG discounts here (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/energy-bills-support/energy-bills-support-factsheet-8-september-2022) to the above V18 tariff I arrive at figures virtually identical the EPG figures).

Can I ask EoN Next to put me back on the V18 and then they would legally be required to apply the EDG discounts? Or I have misunderstood something? I feel that this would give me the certainty of V18 for 12 months (and it;s free to switch away from).

Thanks for any advice!

seems odd that they would move you from a fixed to a variable, unless they are going to commit to the EPG figures until October next year.

I would ask them to put you back on the fix - if thats what you want - however if you go on the fix you can't get the discounts as well.

Why can't you get the discount if you're on a fix? I'm on a fix until 2024, and am definitely also getting the gov discount.

if you sign up to a new fix after the discounts started (not that there are many around) then i think someone was saying they weren't included in the guarentee (not sure if thats right but i can't find the post about it now).

but if the fix predates the government subsidy then you should get the 17p and 4p subject to the floor.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

They should be able to get a 17p/kWh discount until April, so 37p/kWh. Not as cheap as the SVT but close, and could be cheaper come April.

No, do not ask to go back to the fixed.
Eon.Next did the same to me, put me on the Next Flex (SVR) tariff after I had signed up to the online V19 fixed. Would have been worse off for a few months, but the forecasts for January would have made it worthwhile. Then the EPG was announced, initially for two years, and then cut to six months.. Eon.Next have said that if the unit prices rises above the V19 rates in April, they will automatically reinstate the fixed tariff. So regardless of prices rising or falling, I won't be paying any more than I need to.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

My fix predated the govt subsidy, i took it out on 10th August, the start was delayed due it not kicking in until the expiry of the previous fix I took out in october 2021.
