    Unlikely from what you describe, but the boiler flue isn't in the neighbourhood of a window in that room, or similar?

    If I'm walking past my flue outlet at the same moment as the boiler fires up, I do get the distinctive - but very brief - whiff of unburnt gas.
  • Update: I had a different plumber here this evening who actually had a plan and is going to isolate different bits of pipe and test the drop to find out where it is. He can't quite understand why plumber 1 didn't do this he was just spraying along the entire gas pipe. Plumber 1 was also just telling me he didn't know where this situation left me as if it might be the case that I would have no gas...ever again! I'm hoping it gets sorted tomorrow. 

    And yes, to the person who said it was !!!!!! covering!
