I know there are some Premier customers on these boards and was wondering if anyone managed to achieve what I have tried unsuccessfully:

I have been a Barclays Premier Customer for many years now, and have several products with them, and I thought to open an additional standard Current account ready to be used as a donor for a switch incentive that i may qualify for.

I did the application through the app, and although I clearly selected a Standard Current account option in the product section (where Premier was listed separately), I ended up getting another Premier account. Now this is not great as I was planning to have this account dormant ready for a future switch, but the recent Premier changes it means I would have to pay a monthly fee unless I deposit money monthly (I know about circling my earning, I do that already between my many active accounts, but as I said, the plan was for this to be a dormant standard account…).

So, do any fellow Premier customers managed to open a standard account?

I stopped working for Barclays not so long ago, it may have changed, but the eligibility criteria for being a Barclays Premier customer is not per account, so as long as you fit the criteria of +£75k income per year or +£100k saved or invested with Barclays, you are eligible to be a Premier Customer free of charge which then entitles you to have premier account(s). So this shouldn’t be an issue

Thanks, I have since received the same feedback via the app messaging service.

I thought to open an additional Basic Current account ready to be used as a donor for a switch incentive that i may qualify for.
They only offer these to those who don't qualify for one of their other accounts: https://www.barclays.co.uk/current-accounts/basic-account/

I clearly selected a Standard Current account option in the product section (where Premier was listed separately)
Standard and Basic are different products too, assuming by 'standard' you meant https://www.barclays.co.uk/current-accounts/bank-account/

Corrected the first post, I meant Standard current account or Barclays Bank Account (in the app, it comes under “Everyday Banking”, instead of “Premier Banking” for the other - Barclays Premier Current Account
