Minimum gap between window and corner of brickwork?
wonkytable

Hi all,
We're having to have building control round to certify a new opening and window we had made at the end of our single story extension. The window is two bricks worth away from the corner/side of the extension. We're worried it might not pass building regs and have to be moved. Anyone can confirm min distances? Building regs docs got me really confused.

It depends on the cavity size. 3 bricks used to be the standard when cavities were smaller, but British standards now say for a cavity over 75mm it should be 3.5 bricks.
Have you read through Doc A of the regs?0 -
It will also depend on the size of openings, but I wouldn't be confident. We usually have to put steels in to provide proper bracing where the openings are near to corners.I'd have asked our structural engineer before even considering starting.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The work has obviously already been done, but we are not having the inspection until the end of next week. Do you think it would be worth getting in a structural engineer at the point to support the application (if they feel it is structurally sound)?0

Have you got a photo of the window and brickwork?0
