Leaking swivel mixer tap

Our tap looks a lot like:

Water has recently started escaping around the area the taps neck swivels on the base.... very small amount when the tap is off and very significant when the tap is on (I think the former may be water just running back down the neck as it now splutters each time you turn it on.
There is a grub nut that keeps the neck attached and having undone that and removed the neck I can see there is a plastic like material ring around the stem that swivels and has a hole in it for the grub nut. This ring is cracked through in one place and so I am guessing this is how the water is getting around the mechanism and up out the swivel point.?
I assume the tap is now dead?

If it's a branded tap, and not just a generic shed-job, then spares should be available. What brand is it?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Its unfortunate as put in a 2nd filtered water tap a while back (mrs likes it so doesnt matter if its snake oil or not) but ideally would replace the main tap with an all in one boiling water type thing however that makes the second tap redundant and/or a hole in the sink top.
Ultimately the whole kitchen will be replaced but that doesnt seem to be getting any sooner.0 -
you can get a cover that will push fit into the unused tap hole (or you could fit a soap dispenser or similar through it)0

Looks like cheaply made Chinese import, you could try using a O ring, or just replace0

1. The base of the spout which attaches to the tap will have:
1a. One or two black rubber O rings / black rubber square profile seals. These provide the water seal.
1b. Probably, a white plastic / nylon split ring. This is to centralise the spout in its hole, and provide some friction for the swivelling action. It is normal to line it up so that the end of the securing grub screw goes into the split. This split ring does not provide a seal.
2. You would need to replace:
2a. The O ring(s) if fitted. These are measured on the internal diameter and the thickness, with inside diameter plus twice thickness giving outside diameter. They are virtually impossible to measure without a set of vernier calipers. I'd measure the diameter onto which each ring fits, then multiply that by 0.95 to get an interference fit. Measure the thickness applying minimum pressure to the calipers. Buy an O ring of the exact same measurements. If none is available, get one next size down from internal diameter and one next size up. Repeat for other O ring. You can get sets of O rings, but in my experience they never have the size you want.
2b. The square section seals if fitted. These appear to be proprietary to the tap manufacturers, and I've never had any success unless I know the make and exact model of the taps and can get spares.
3. With no-name taps, commercially it is cheaper for the customer to just replace the taps.0 -
Have you tried using your photo to do a match on Google?
Can't remember how but .it's easy and instructions on the web.
You may be able to find a brand, spares or same tap.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
