Energy Grant

My electricity supplier has only credited my account for £29 which is my usual direct debit instead of £66.  They say they don’t credit the whole amount as the DD is a lesser amount. I’m worried because I’ve just bought my property and the previous owner didn’t spend any time in it.  Is my supplier correct?

Who is your supplier? There is a list on the main MSE site which confirms how each supplier intends dealing with the £400 grant - it sounds like yours will be crediting the DD amount and then sending the the balance back to your bank account.

The remaining amount will be a credit on your energy account, so it will build up a buffer. I have the same thing, my bills are £19, so I get that amount back and £47 stayed in my British Gas account.

Next year, after these credits end, I will be lowering my direct debit and let the buffer pay for my usage for a while instead.
