Please help me to choose a laptop

Ok, so I've decided not to purchase the Datawind PocketSurfer 2 (see previous thread) and purchase a laptop instead. I'm willing to spend up to £500. My main requirement is that it needs to be wireless enabled. The only thing I really don't want is a laptop that has a Pentium M processor or anything similar.

I have been looking at this laptop: Sony Vaio is it a good laptop to buy? Worth £500? I'd appreciate both positive and negative comments.

If there's a better laptop that I should buy please feel free to recommend.

Sony produce quality laptops and the dual core cpu or core duo as its also known is Intel's first generation dual core processor based upon the Pentium M (a Pentium III-4 hybrid) made mostly for laptops (though a few motherboard manufacturers have released desktop boards supporting the Core Duo CPU), and is much more efficiently than Pentium D.

The Core 2 Duo is Intel's second generation (hence, Core 2) processor made for desktops and laptops designed from the ground up to be fast while not consuming nearly as much power as previous CPUs.

However heres a few for you to ponder that fit your criteria and have better cpu and specs for the money, bear in mind that a core 2 duo has much more advantages than dual core : -

EDIT: forget getting an AMD cpu and instead get a core 2 duo, its well worth it and the best bang for buck not to mention that it eats AMD cpu's for breakfast

I don't understand the difference between dual core and core 2 dual it sounds like the same thing to me but I'm sure there is a difference.

The easiest explanation is that The Intel® Core™2 processor family delivers significantly more performance, while actually consuming less energy than the Dual core. Thats just 2 major advantages over the Dual core but there are others. Lots of info available at www.intel.com or "google" is your friend.
