Been on a fixed rate with British Gas for a year that’s coming to an end and they’re putting us on their standard variable rate. Should I shop around or is it just really expensive anywhere? Attached photos to show our usage this year (they hardly ever take readings). Also can’t get a smart meter as BG came to fit one and said it can’t be done
Thanks in advance.

Through until 31/3/23 the cheapest that you will find will be some variant based on the Government Energy Price Guarantee variable tariff rates. Any fix, if available, is likely to be at significantly higher prices.
Very few suppliers are taking on new customers - the 2 that come up as possibilities & then only if you 'phone them (not online) are EDF & Octopus (but they may be busy atm as they are taking over Bulb).0 -

The requirement for suppliers to send out meter readers was dropped a few years ago. The supplier only has to obtain a meter reading once a year.
Shopping around at the moment really isn’t worth the effort. Be prepared for a massive hike in your bills: sorry. You are using an awful lot of gas which has increased in price by a factor of 4 for some consumers.

It's up to you these days to take meter readings if you want accurate bills - don't expect meter readers to come around.Miriamjones said: (they hardly ever take readings). Also can’t get a smart meter as BG came to fit one and said it can’t be done

Read your meters every month and give them to BG .
I know they are estimates but your gas is high - turn those thermostats down and reduce the hours on the timer.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
