Emergency lighting for elderly couple

You can get battery-operated candles with remote controls, and I have recently bought a head-torch which lights up the whole room. It seems really good though I don't know how long the batteries will last.

We got the first light installed tonight. We got these ones. https://www.electricaldirect.co.uk/product/integral-led-5w-emergency-led-bulkhead-light-ip65-4000k-cool-white-white-645385 And because we got 6 they were slightly cheaper. We picked them because they are a bit brighter. We put a cable and plug on them because then we can charge them up and see where they were best placed. The first one we put in the bedroom near the door.I briefly turned the main light off to show my father in law. He panicked and said he was going to fall over because the light was off, so it was a good call to have them entirely automatic. We have them set as non maintained so they only come on if there is no power. They give 3 hours light if the power goes off.I think I will still get some more portable ones because they probably need something for the bathroom.0

Her response was 4 candles. Apart from making me laugh, I couldn’t see how a Two Ronnies sketch was going to light my way up to bed.
I sense that, as yet, she doesn’t deem us to be vulnerable. She did say that if the lights went out she would pop round to see how we are, as we are the ones with the 13.5kW battery.

How about battery lights motion detected you can stick to the skirting board or anywhere you want0

For those who propose a proper emergency lighting such as like bulkheador thisIt is important to make people aware that you will need an electrician to wire it.I you do not want to pay for an electrician, the simplest solution without the need to wire it, is to buy emergency lighting that could be plugged into the socket and it will automaticity turn on when there is a power cut.But the disadvantage is that the socket is already engaged all the time and it can not be used for other purpose any-longer.0

We are plugging them into a socket but we thought we could plug them into an extension lead supplying the normal lights that they never turn off at the socket. That way they are always charging unless the power goes off.0

The only downside will be if there’s a power cut at say 3am? Suddenly woken by the light coming on?PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)0

They'd probably qualify for extra support in the event of a power cut if they sign up on the priority services register0

We put a cable and plug on themI've got a few similar lights which I've wired with a cable and plug to use as portable work lights however as they're designed to be hard wired into the electrical wiring there is no cable clamp on them as there would be on a light designed to be portable. I've expertly bodged mine with carefully sited cable ties, without these it would be possible to pull the wires out leaving a live wire loose. No idea if yours are similar but if so I wouldn't rely on just the cable connecting screws.
