Hullo Frugalistas. Well done, Mumzy! You won't regret it.
OK, I've held back until today but I can no longer live with my secret shame and I'm coming out of the closet now. The terrible truth is that I've never ventured onto Ebay as a seller. Everyone tells me it's easy but when i look on the site there seems to be lots of stuff to remember and to take care of; I'd really appreciate someone pointing me towards a clear, comprehensive 'how to' guide for beginners. I've looked on various threads on this site but the posts tend to assume you have prior knowledge. I want to sell my own secondhand clutter (books, videos, lamps, etc, maybe some jewellery if I get bold) rather than start a business. Also, what are the pros and cons of selling through Ebay, Ebid or Amazon?

redglass, E bay terrifies me too. Set up my account but never sold anything yet. Have sold lots of books on amazon though that seems easier to do to me. DD just sold first thing on e bay, she hasn't had a problem but there are so many people you hear of having issues it scares the pants off me:o

redglass I sold quite a lot on Ebay a few years ago with the help of the Turbolister tool they have. I presume they still have it. The "Seller Tools" are good at talking you through the process and I am a complete Technophobe.
    Good luck.

    :j :j :j DS2 passed his driving test :j :j :j

I am so delighted for him. He took it in Glasgow and it was really busy as there is a football match on.
I am so proud of my kids :T
  • Congrats to you and DS2, Janey51. It can't have been easy in a busy city, at least he will be prepared for most situations now.

My elderly Mum is addicted to the TV shopping channels and I cannot stop her  but she is pretty much confined to the house so I can keep a check on her money and she hasn't got a bank or credit card which is a blessing.
She has been paying for all her purchases using Transcash which costs £2.25 a transaction which really grieves my Frugalite mentality.
So, I have registerd with the site myself and am now paying for her stuff with my debit card. But I haven't told her and will be putting the Transcash fee away for her in her savings account. I have Power of Attorney and handle all her money so this is the best solution I can come up with.
She is a bit confused now and although some relatives have said I should block the shopping channels I don't think thats fair as she has already had so much independence taken away from her. She loves the thrill she gets when her purchases are delivered.
When she eventually "goes" I will inherit the biggest load of imitation jewellery known to Man

Janey that sounds scarey, I had no idea there were so many ways to buy from shopping channels, shocking that they can get past power of attorney. But I think its realy nice of you to let her still buy when it must be so tempting to stamp it out. I suppose its her equivelent of the pub or something like that.

My spending has just made a jump as I've paid for my TV license. Back to no heating (I haven't paid any electricity yet this year  not looking forward to when I finally get a bill).

Have you seen Google today? They've gone dark in honour of Earth Hour. I love Google's designs.:)

Congratulations to Janey's DS! (These are soft drinks).

Re the eBid/eBay/Amazon debate, I'm afraid that I am an eBid diehard now because I grudge paying the listing and final value fees charged by eBay and then giving them more by way of their owning PayPal! I now use mainly free listings and have opened stores on eBid. I do not sell much and keep meaning to do a great deal more but I'm too easily distracted and spend far too much time in the forums talking about earning and saving to actually list new things! :rotfl: One day soon...

Today I have spent a total of £10. £4 something went on groceries, change from that fiver went into charity bucket at the counter and another £5 to top up my mobile just to prevent it from deactivating. I can't decide how to tally up my signature and keep changing it. My spends to date are as follow:
    January - £750.07
    February - £135.15
    March - £222.22
This all amounts to £1,107.44 but I don't know whether to deduct the TV license fee, as I haven't technically paid for that out of my budget. Now, rather than listing my charity items and baking, I'm crunching silly numbers and thinking about moving house, as I am convinced the LL has decided to sell the house... why else would he ask how much notice we'd need?
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I have finally listed some things on ebay today. I made a start on the gardening and then it started raining. I'm struggling to get motivated but I really need to get my finger out..

Nyk: Does ebid work the same way as ebay? Is it as popular? I don't think I've ever heard of it before, but it might be worth giving it a go.
