The less I spend, the more I can afford.
Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.0 -
Just finished my figures for this month - and they're not looking pretty at all  I'll be lucky to live on twice my budget at this rate!
My sad,sad sig tells it all... Although it does inlude £325 for house insurance, which has increased hugely as I've put in a claim for my roof to be repaired & my bedroom to be redecorated (currently sporting floor to ceiling mould) which they are "considering".
I shall try & comfort myself with the fact that it could have been a lot worse, had I not really thought about how much I was spending! That & the glass of red I'll be pouring later
Have cut down hugely on food bills, so pleased with that!
Thanks for all your advice - I don't post often but do try & catch up every few days.
Not even going to mention the fitness challenge...& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Hi Guys,
Last weekend I was reading through the posts in absolute AWE! I am trying to the challenge on £5,000 a year (and failing miserably:o ). I was going to leave the challenge as I just can't manage our outgoings on £80.00 per week. (I know that this is a great deal more than most of you are managing on per week but it leaves no leeway at all for helping out daughter at Uni and emergencies, vet bills, etc). I don't want to go back to just existing which was the position I found myself in when my marriage broke up due to my husbasnds alcoholism and I found out that he had spent all of our money, taken out countless loans, etc, etc.
Having read the posts later in the week, I find that some of you are in the same position, so I have decided to stay with the challenge and try my damdest to stay within the £5,000 per year. I noticed that nyk uses any money from Quidco etc as extra income whereas I've been putting mine into my free Christmas 2008 fund.
I want to thank you for all the laughs, support, great ideas etc that I've gained from this thread:T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T
even in my darkest moments one of you wonderful people manages to cheer me up and see things in a brighter light.
I've had some great freebies this week and picked up a as new 'Adopt a Gorilla' pack fom Oxfam for £3.00 which hadn't been activated so there's my mum's Mother's Day pressie. (I saw then in WHS for about £50.00 at Christmas).
Bad news on the breadmaker front - I ate the first loaf (yes, the whole lot:o ) before anyone else had any! Then I used it to make 2 huge wholemeal pizza bases. We had one delicious pizza for tea and I was going to freeze one. I ate the one for the freezer - yep the whole lot:eek:
Needless to say I HAVE NOT lost any weight this month! Breadmaker is now relegated to back of cupboard.0 -
no, keep the breadmaker on the worktop - it's the rules that you have to eat the first loaf as you are the guinea pig!!!

I have totalled up my spends for February and the only thing I can say is that I have gone off the boil some what (major understatement)!!!
The total spend for February is £882.96 and TBH thats not even the real world, getting a picture of why I'm in debt in the first place!
The thing is, I'm still very hopeful against all the odds that this is totally the right place to be, and that I will do this. Even if I go over budget I will still be a whole lot better off for doing this financially and as a person:A Thank you all for your encouragement and "craic":TLive on a little over £4k challenge
