Hello and welcome to Liuhut, I have added your name to the challenger list at post 1, your number is 43. Good luck with the challenge and I hope you have fun  Thanks for joining us and welcome to madness and mayhem :)

Hope everyone is organised for the festive season and, if you are anything like me, you'll be hoping to get enough 'smelly stuff' to last throughout 2008 and save you having to buy any :rotfl:

Mini_huny_money I hope you had a great time in Glasgow and I'm proud of anyone who can turn away from the shops and head for some free culture and fresh air, even if it was minus 7 LOL

Thanks for the good luck nykmedia, I think I might need it tbh, i reckon we spend double this ammount at the moment and have been really suprised with mobile bills and the phone bill recently. Thats why I have included them so that I can really work at reducing them

thanks for having me!!! we are planning to go for Oz for a year and I want to take £12k with me so (in theory0 we will not have to work if we dont want to...this year is the trial run to see how much we can live on and get the money together at the same time!!!

Have a lovely christmas all and I hope you get everthing you [strike]want[/strike]..need :D

  • thanks for the reply whitewing im still trying to formulate some sort of plan for us.

i think ill do something with a paper and pen as a guide and maybe join next year cos i really havent got a clue how this will pan out for us as a family.

most of the things on the stuff to be included list i dont have to budget for so i dont know why im struggling but i think its just the fear of the unknown.

i will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread with keen interest and wish you all well i know you will all do well.. good luck all.

Quick hello from freezing southwest Scotland. I'm going to be checking my electricity meter next year as, having moved house recently, it looks like they have grossly underestimated the first bill, meaning that the next one is going to be astronomical. I've just read through the relevant thread in the forums and am still none the wiser for the huge variation in utilities bills. Have also searched for a thread that can recommend the most cost effective electric heaters - living in rented accommodation (rather draughty, high ceilings, windows in need of replacement and a generally odd-shaped house all round) whilst saving to buy, no gas here, only storage heaters & hot water on E7 plus electric heaters as there's no heating at all on ground floor.) If my calculations are correct, I could be facing a £500 bill next month at this rate. ALL suggestions welcome. Off to find a chimney sweep now, and hope I get some winter woolies for Christmas :)

Happy (and warm!) Xmas nykmedia and fellow challengees. Affordmy life - go for it at £5500 - just above me. Even if you fail, you'll spend less and I bet you come up with some good tips for us if you're part of the challenge.

Well done, az. I got some new underwear from Xmas so no need to buy that, which I'm pleased about. It's prettier than I would have bought too. And lots of books so some pleasant evenings in snuggled up under the duvet.

We haven't even had our presents from family yet. But aunty is cooking for us today and tomorrow lunch, and we're going to a friend's for tea so that has helped cut down costs considerably.

  • Well, We are off to a good start for next years minimum spending.
Christmas has been generous, lot's of lovely toiletries to use up through out the year, two expensive perfumes will be getting recycled and going on Ebay :D,snuggly socks and dressing gowns (perfick for keeping the heating on low and the bills down), a few DVDs will be watched and then put on Amazon, I pain stakingly sat for 30 mins cutting sheets of wrapping paper for next year from this years used paper (recycling at its best) and of course all the bows, ribbons and booze bottle bags will get recycled too!, three bottles of booze given that will go in next years xmas pressie cupboard (we aren't big drinkers so waste not want not) and enough makeup/clothing/underwear etc to last till June.

So I am off to work to earn double pay for a few hours before I return home for a yummy 6pm Christmas dinner.

Have a fabulous day all your scrummy money savers. X x
