Have taken d/d that I'm including in the challenge, also cash payments I made on Friday.

DH gets paid weekly on Fridays so I pay most things on a Friday.

So
D/D £89.00
Cash £44.46 this doesn't include grocery

It doesn't look like I'm including much in the way of d/d but most of ours are things like life ins and pensions which are tied into the mortgage, and with having young kids, want that security.
The main d/d included are for things that can be reduced if possible like heating oil and phone usage.
My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

I see no reason why you can't join in the frugal fun. In my estimations, you have around £15,600 over the year less £7,500 rent, £252 water, £1212 Council Tax and £1728 DMP so that leaves you £4908 per year to live on. As we have already reached month 2, that's £3661 to budget with over the next 11 months, or approximately £333 per month to cover everything else - groceries, heat, light, telephone, Internet, travel, gifts etc. If you can stay within that budget, it COULD leave you a minimum of £75 per month savings but that's without knowing what other overheads you have - car, work travel, holidays,cigarettes/alcohol, regular hobbies/clubs, socialising etc.

Hope you can join us here, as it's great fun and highly addictive :D Supermarkets - depends how and when you shop as most of the regular ones offer the potential for frugal shopping :T

Hello,

Firstly, I am a complete novice to this site. Only registered yesterday and have today started dealing with CCCS to get the ball rolling on my debts.

I have been looking at your challenge here and although it's a little late i'd like to join and if its not too late I would really appreciate any advice anyone could give.

Thanks Muchly :o

Hi, I've been lurking for a while, but didn't join because, sorry, I didn't really think it was possible!

Anyway, I have now done my sums for January, and I am an absolute convert!! So if you'll have a disbeliever like me, I'd love to join in please.

I am aiming for £4000 for the year as well. Not including mortgage, council tax or water rates. Also, I'm not including household bills. This way I can get all my debts paid off by the end of the year, but not feel totally constrained (I'm worried if I aim for £4000 inc. bills I'll find it so hard I'll just chuck the towel in). The only other caveat is holidays. We've not got anything booked, and at the moment I'm just planning a long visit with my parents, which is included in the budget. However, I'm not sure if I can go a whole year without a proper hol! So that's the only thing I might fail on. Therefore I'm aiming for £4000 including visits to Mum and Dad, but excluding any foreign holidays.

Here's my totals for January:

Food: 141 (must do better!)
Evening Class: 61 (whole term paid)
Clothing: 9
Healthcare: -66 (got a refund)
Household: 9
Leisure & Entertainment: 53
Misc & Gifts: 5
Personal Care (hair & toiletries): 10
Transport: 18
TOTAL: 240
Projected over 12 months 2880!! (but January is always a good month for me, I won't always manage this)

Anyway, just wanted to say good luck everyone, this is a great challenge and a brill way to keep everyone motivated!

Hi GemGems :T
This challenge really makes you think about every penny.
I wrestled with myself in Wilkinsons yesterday as I wanted a small notebook to carry to keep a record of all my purchases. I really, really wanted one with a cute picture of kittens on :D which was £1.29 but came out with a Value one for 29p which is pictureless:D

Going to have a go at making faggots. I used to love them as a kid until I watched my Granny making them
Having seen how cheap the ingredients are, I'm going to give it another go. Got a recipe from the BBC Food website and have bought Pig's Liver, Lamb Heart and Belly Pork  Sounds delightful but I will be brave. After all, if it was good enough for Granny....

I'd love to hear how you get on. I love faggots. If you don't fancy having a go, I would do liver and bacon (or just liver and gravy with mash), stuff the heart and then mmmmm.......belly pork :D .....i love belly pork. Put it on a rack, pour hot water over it, wipe dry, then roast until the crackling is really raised. It is delicious. This is a recipe I submitted to a website years ago

http://www.devonrose.com/recipes.aspx

(look for Crisp Chinese Roast Pork ;) ) the better quality the meat, the better the crackling on belly pork.

For me £3.99 today. I succumbed to the Book People and bought 2 books - 1 is Spanish cookery recipes - not that I need another recipe book  Looks like they are sending them separately as the total bill was £7.98 and it did say one was on back order.

Morning all,
I have to do a tesco order today. I'm going to try and make it last 2 weeks with what I've already got in...!
Will update tomorrow, which is when it will arrive.

I can't decide whether to stock my cupboards up or just buy what I need each week.....
