Hotel near Southampton cruise port

Hi lovely forum members
I have booked a cruise with P & O departing from Southampton next summer.
I will be arriving by rail the day before. Can anyone recommend a hotel I can easily get to from the station, have a walk around in the evening & easy to get to port in the morning.
I don't know the area at all. Your help will be appreciated.

Have not stayed in any but there are a number in West Quay which would suit your purpose, very close to cruise liner terminals and city centre. Maps will probably show IKEA and West quay shopping centre. For an historic port  I do not find Southampton itself very interesting.

    Hi Suzycoll,

I work near the station and there is a Novotel and an Ibis just to the south of Southampton Central Station although it means crossing a main road at a set of traffic lights, but isn't really that far.

The hotels seem to cater for a lot of cruise passengers so should be able to arrange a taxi to take you to whichever cruise terminal you are leaving from in the morning.   I have seen people walking to the port with their luggage, but it may be too far when taxis shouldn't be too much.

As for strolling round at night, there isn't a lot to see in that area, but you could try West Quay for a movie or restaurants and there is a TGI Friday nearby.

    Hope this helps

A bit late to this one but loads of time before the cruise.

We find the best location is Travelodge central(we book refundable and price watch).
very close to the shopping( with restaurants and bars on the high street.

Walkable if you go in the mall(JL lower entrance) and use the elevators.
    or
    short taxi ride

Although the ibis/novotel are closer to the station there is only a Md and TGI close.

Premier inn and Moxi are other decent choices but a bit further to walk for stuff in town ok for the Mall.

Have a play with street view, here is the view of the mall entrance from the TL
