Diagnose complete failure of TV reception?

An update. Just had an expert in. He removed the mast head amplifier, opened it up in front of me and tipped out a load of water. He then repositioned the aerial (I'd already said it didn't look like it was pointing to the best transmitter - Beacon Hill), then fitted a more up to date amplifier and power supply.
Apparently since our old amplifier was fitted, some frequencies had been sold off for 4G and the new one has better frequency filtering.
He retuned the TV and HDD recorder and I could see there are more mux channels available than before and the bit error rate on each channel is zero, whereas it was jumping about all of the time before.
So here's hoping the long standing problem of picture freeze and skipping when watching recorded programs has been solved.
Now to wait for the bill!2 -
Good result, so long as not too expensive!

As said your masthead amp may have failed. Our Freeview reception started to act up after years of trouble free service this would been about 2019-20. After.much research I found that mobile phone mast signals cause problems and there is a free plug in filter that goes between the arial and the TV (contact Freeview). This did not make any difference, eventually I found out that the local TV transmitters output have been tweeked causing many problems with reception. In the end I gave up and went with Freesat, bought a little settop box and fed that from our old redundent Sky sat dish and have never looked back."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0
