Has anyone else had a discrepancy between Actual billing and the "online" system? Example....Check online how much owing. £50 But just to make sure. Phone them. Only to be told amount is £600. Surely accuracy is paramount in these circumstances! What can we do?

I don't know BG's systems specifically, but yes - depending on exactly when there was last an accurate meter reading provided and billed for, there can be a discrepancy between the apparent account balance and the "real" current balance.

Online balances can be very misleading.
I'm with EDF and my online balance shows the credit/debit from last bill plus DD's made since but excludes the energy costs.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
I think British Gas have some major system issues when it comes to keeping the customer on the ball with how much they're owing/owed on utilities. I noticed this morning when I logged in online/via their app that when I check the 'Usage' function (where they provide a graph hourly/daily/weekly/monthly) that when viewed in £ it's showing costs based on old £/Kwh rates. When I move the toggle to show in Kwh is bang on what I keep track of using meter readings and Bright app. However it seems when they convert it to £ they're using the old rates.
I hope people out there are monitoring in Kwh not in £ or they could be in for a nasty surprise. I thought I was using about £4 per day, turns out its more like £8-£10 per day plus standing charge.
So for me the meter is showing the wrong rates, the IHD is showing the wrong rates, and the 'usage' function on the BG sites are based on wrong rates. I know the bill will be correct and match my sheet but it don't make monitoring usage very easy.Original Debt £37,493.25 @ 25/05/2019 - Now £0 @ 24/02/2023 - £37,493.25 - 100% paid0
