So in previous posts I had stated my gas usage doesnt change by any significant amount from summer to winter, however I looked at the octopus app and it seems I was wrong, it still doesnt change anything like what Octopus have predicted or what other people's do, but there is a pattern.

So the app only goes back to late March when the smart meter was fitted.    In all this time I have not used central heating once and dont expect to use it at all for the year, so the variance I assume is how much gas is needed to get water up to temperature.

It starts in April as the first full month, gradually goes down until July and August which is where it bottomed out, and then starts rising again in September, October and April are very similar gas usage.

The differential is roughly a 1.3 multiplier for April, October over July, August.

Electricity on the other hand which is most of my consumption, is very consistent with no obvious seasonal adjustments.

Please note this is about usage rather than cost, as tariffs change, EPG etc.

For joint gas and electric as I don't feel like splitting each month and checking, although it's 99 - 110 kWh each month for electric each month.

2020, 8 months, 5433.14 kWh, no breakdown as my supplier did it at an even level when they finally set my account up.

2021, 12 months, 8035.45 kWh, Apr was highest gas, Nov and Dec half less used than in April as I'd learned how to use the timer for bursts of the GCH being on.

2022, 10 months, 4888.95 kWh, Jan was highest gas with bursts of the GCH being on, with half less used in Feb.

WaH, laptop, PC, dual screen,, toaster, freezer, fridge, washing machine, electric shower no bath, only use ceiling lights in kitchen and shower room, lamp in lounge, rechargeable nightlight in bedroom, 2 mobiles. Gas cooker, on demand hot water and GCH.

Always been on SP SVR since moving here.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

@Chrysalis     I wonder if part of this variation is due to your lifestyle    -  are you out more, on holiday, in the garden - more in the summer months ?

My elecricity usage is pretty constant all year round (slight increase in winter for lighting for longer & the CH pump).
However, I use something like 70% of my gas usage over 3 peak months in winter, 90% over 6 winter months.

    Historically, electric doubles in winter.

But this year I discovered the heat pump has a huge vampire load - 1-2kWh/day even in summer for 'heating' when there is literally no heating output - so next year I'll be keeping an eye on it and we may have to consider turning it off completely.  We've also made adjustments to the hot water and heating settings so we'll see this winter how things go.  I won't mind if it still doubles (or even triples/quadruples) if the actual usage is lower!

our electric averages 2.5kwh ish a day over the summer (from around march to september) then about 6.5 from oct to feb. our annual average is about 4.5. obviously some individual days/run of days might buck the trend but thats stayed fairly constant as an average for the last few years.

our gas use over most of the year is nearly 0. we use maybe 1 or 2 units (about 30-60kwh) every other month for hot water.  then we use the majority of our gas (about 5000kwh/150 units) from october to feb. thats an average of about 450kwh a month. we also burn about 2-3 cubic meters of wood over winter as well.

much lower than 'average' users but a definite seasonal change.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

My lifestyle is consistent year round, I expect those who go out more in the summer might have seasonal adjustments on their electric? whilst mine is consistent.
