Car insurance

My husband  has 2 cars insured with Churchill, we have just had the renewal for our Mx5 but we have received a letter stating they have chosen not to insure out Toyota estate. We are really confused as we have had no change of circumstances, he has a clean license no fines etc. we have contacted them and there seems to be issues

Even although the Toyota is insured until the 20th it’s not showing on the portal
1st time we contacted them we were told we must have it insured under another email and he couldn’t find it

2nd time we contacted them we were told the had a new computer system and it was likely to be a glitch and they would get back to us this they didn’t

We called them again and they could not find any record of our 2nd conversation and we were told they chose not to renew the insurance without explanation and could not say why they chose to renew 1 but not the other. They really just didn't want to know.

I find it amazing they will not tell us why and I presume we have to declare we have been refused insurance which will mean we have to pay more. we are thinking is there some fraud going on with his identity.

Can anyone advise

thank you

A decline to quote doesnt normally have to be declared, if you have ever done a quote on Confused.com you will see a list of providers that have declined to quote and so we'd all be answering yes if that were the case. That said you need to read the exact question asked and answer honestly, a minority do ask if you've been declined a renewal quote in which case you'd then have to say yes.

Its much more likely some random factor, unfortunately front line staff have no authority to negotiate etc and so are never told why decisions are made... they read off the screen in the same way you do when you do a quote online, in one former client they almost used the same website (only the payment screen was different).
  • Thanks for the advice, the staff have all been very pleasant but it's just really frustrating they won't tell us why. We have now got insurance from another company. I really appreciate that you've taken the time to help
