    Moan/whinge:

I do most of the things suggested here, including the oven door open (if the cats jump in we will just have to eat the cats, won't we? hehehe).

Then my kids leave all the lights on, wash ONE school jumper in the washing machine at a time (with nothing else in it!) AND tumble dry it...

I could go on and on, moaning and whinging about living with teenagers and how they make frugal living impossible!

End of moan/whinge, thanks for listening hehe

On a positive note: I have taught them to switch off the TV at the mains every night! This is just about the only thing they do regularly for money-saving.

Not long now, Traf, they are 15 and a half, very soon will leave home I imagine, then I shall be sorry and miss them like mad and will rather have them here squandering money than away...

    Mothers: can't win!

    Sooo true!

Thank you Traf, this idea really cheered me no end heheeehehe!

160, yes you got all this to come if you got pre-teens (But a lot of nice times too - I miss their childhood sooo much now!)

    Ciao

Instead of leaving oven door open make Meringue crunchies overnight with the leftover heat.

2 egg whites (use yolks for quiche)
    5oz caster sugar
6oz crunch (crisp cereal, broken biscuits, nuts, choc chips) whatever you have leftover

Beat the egg whites with the sugar until really thick. Fold in the crunchy bits. Line 3 baking sheets with foil and dot with teaspoons of the mixture, leaving room to spread. Place baking in the oven before you turn it out. Shut the door, turn off the heat and leave the cookies for at least 8 hours. Whatever you do DO NOT OPEN DOOR! Then in the morning - voila - lovely, yummy cookies from free heat!!

This recipe comes from the Shirley Goode book - The Goode Kitchen. The first of a series of 3 books full of very good advice for food budgeting. Out of print now but I often see them in charity shops - paperback so cheap.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Anyone want to adopt my soon to be 14 year old who hasn't heard of switching anything off?
