Here is absolute proof that cadent will remove gas supply for free as long as nobody asks cadent to do anything.

Fair enough, I can see that for new builds there will be no need to even install a gas main when electric is already provided to the property, you would just install a heat pump and be done. Heck, maybe you could even install GSHP and run it underneath the house - I've no idea if that is practical though. I've no intentions of having my gas supply removed however until forced to do so as HPs are still prohibitively expensive to install and offer little to no advantage to older properties.

Another problem is that I THIINK (?) they need electricity to run, and the colder it is the more electric they need? If you have a power outage surely your heat pump goes down too?
We could be 100% self-reliant for heat with woodburners, but that's not going to work if everyone does it - not least because wood will get too expensive and source of free wood will dry up. In summer we have solar and we have so much excess that we can run electric showers/electric over-sink heaters. We **CAN** heat water on the woodburner in winter and put it into a pump action shower thingy - so doing away with gas would be doable. But I like the fallback of gas for when I can't be bothered or for days when it's too warm for a woodburner but we haven't had sun in ages.
But if they get personal wind turbines to a point where they're viable I think I could go off-grid completely with combination of woodburner, solar (with 7kw battery backup) and wind power for the deep, dark winter months.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0
