what do I do to increase John Lewis new CC pay limit from 15 to 25+ days

So do I call or what?  Limit is twice what I had before and not needed but I would like to increase the payment window.  Should I cancel then reapply?  I am not that bothered either by JL vouchers -about £10-15 a quarter to be honest.  Just like 2 cc so I can choose.  Really, really annoyed about decrease in payment term.

I am retired, income is above average hence cc limit increase.

I'd say get an account elsewhere. Even for shopping in John Lewis/Waitrose the Partnership Card is not optimal in terms of cashback potential.

Have a look at the Amex card range and also Barclaycard Avios. If you shop at Sainsburys, Argos or Ebay then a Nectar Amex will give you 1p back in the £ (£25 annual fee after Y1) and Barclaycard Avios will give you back 0.67p in the £ (no annual fee).

John Lewis e Gift Cards can be purchased from TopCashback's TopGiftcards offer with 2.5% cashback, plus whatever rewards your credit card can give you. You can beat this if you have access to a gift card purchasing scheme through a workplace or former workplace (Sodexo, Perksatwork etc). You lose S75 coverage doing this however; as a presumably loyal John Lewis customer you can evaluate how useful this has been for you up to now.
  • If their terms are 15 days from billing date to due date, that is what you have to do, you can't change it, just pay your bill on time and look for a different card if unhappy

It appears that people switching to the Newday card from the old JL card get 15 days but new applicants get 25. I did the former but cancelled when I realised about the 15 days.
I’ve been looking at alternative cards, particularly Amex as I already have a Mastercard. With Amex you get 25 days, but (according to posters elsewhere on these forums) if you want to pay in full by DD they take it 14 days before the payment date which more than cancels out the benefit of the 25 days. I pay by DD because I live alone and if I were to be taken ill, for example, there is nobody to step in and see that my bills are paid on time. I think with Amex I could pay the minimum by DD and it would be taken closer to the payment date, but then I’d have to make an additional payment myself to clear the balance. I’m still trying to decide whether it’s worth the hassle.

If you really wanted to keep the card for its benefits (but it doesn't seem so) - you'd likely have to close the account and then wait a period and then apply as a new customer. You can probably get better deals elsewhere. From the chatter across various forums it does seem a common complaint - so I imagine if enough people vote with their feet and make their feelings known there may be an eventual change for any customers remaining, but don't hold your hopes up on that happening.
  • Thanks for suggestions.  I have an alternative CC (Sainsbury with Nectar Points) and I have moved most of my cc spending to that card.

Yet again shown that loyalty is not worth the same as non-loyalty.  I will only use JL card for JL partnership purchases which are minimal but good for the free newspaper and coupons.  If that stops, will ditch Waitrose/jl all together.

You've managed to pick a card which is even less rewarding!

1 pt per £ in Sainsburys (= 0.5% equivalent, rounded down to nearest whole £)
1 pt per £5 elsewhere (= 0.1% equivalent, rounded down to nearest £5)

Do yourself a favour and see what else you can get.
  • Thanks - I know.  But tbh it is not a big issue.  It is the principle of JL trashing loyal holders that riles.  I can't be bothered changing ccs every 5 minutes.

The Nectar CC ones are terrible now, 1 point for £2, I stopped using it from 1st November and switched to my Lloyds cashback

I get it but that's not really what I'm advocating. If you pick carefully you will likely end up with a relationship that'll last as long as you want it to. Amex, Barclaycard and the Lloyds/Halifax mentioned by @Deleted_User aren't going to be "doing a JLFS" any time soon.
