[Car insurance] How many years of NCD do you lose after a fault accident?

Hello,

I have car insurance with over 10 years of NCD protected. Unfortunately, I had my first accident (in 12 yrs of driving) which was my fault. Since I have my NCB protected that allows me to have one more fault accident in 3 years before I lose it.

The question is, how many years of NCD do I lose? Do they take off a few years or all years?
I am relationship expert. Don't feel shy, say hello.

Depends on the insurer - there is no universal standard and the rules should be in your policy booklet.

However majority of insurers will deduct 2  years from a maximum of 5. So if you have 12 years now you would end up with 3 years; if you had 4 years and had a claim you would end up with 2. (Once you get above 5, additional years usually make little difference to your premium).
