Smart but not so smart meter

My daughter has had a smart meter installed about 4 weeks ago but the engineers said that the software for it was unavailable. She has tried to get them to come out to get it up and running but they have no appointments indefinitely! She has no way of tracking her energy now at all! What can she do? Thanks

    Hi,
do you mean the actual smart meter or the IHD gadget?
I think they mean the IHD but to track energy usage just take daily readings from the meters, I do that as my IHD got waterlogged in 2015 but my present supplier, Octopus, does my daily readings in 30 minute segments. The readings taken might be a bit less than the actual usage, i.e. the reading might say 4 kWh but the actual usage is 3.5 or a bit more as the meter  might not be at zero when installed.
With gas it can be trickier as there will be tenths, hundredths and thousandths of a unit, roughly 0.089 will be 1 kWh of gas. If the meter is set at the level when first installed then it could be using two or more kWh per day with no heating on.
Someone please tell me what money is

  • A graphic is worth a thousand words. The above shows the two smart meters. Note: the In House Display (IHD) is not a smart meter. The IHD connects via a HAN to the communications hub. The DCC is responsible for all communication hubs, and the individual IHD manufacturer is responsible for the certification of its device and all firmware updates. Similarly, meter manufacturers are responsible for the certification of their meters and firmware. It follows that when things are not working as they should, suppliers can no more than lean on the responsible parties.
