Gold finish taps - are there ones that resist wear?

A few years ago we had a new bathroom suite complete with gold finish bath and sink taps but the finish was very thin and soon became faded and worn. Does anyone know of a tap manufacturer who makes gold taps which are durable and come with a guarantee? Also, can you get good quality gold bath plugs and drains?

I have never seen a good gold finish yet in a bathroom and so I always choose chrome.
Apparantley the chemicals in shampoo and other bathroom chemicals attack the gold plate!0 -
Anything other than solid gold (!!!) is going to be some kind of layer applied to a solid brass (or other) base. Chemicals, cleaning, limescale etc are all going to wear away at the finish over time.
Would chrome fittings really not do the job?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
