Tyre fitter charging for services i do not require

Ive just bought a set of new alloys without tyres and new tpms sensors/valves etc. Looking at tyres - kwik fit have a deal on bridgestones which seem ok - however, they want to charge nearly an extra £40 for tyre disposal and service kit for the TPMS/valve etc. This charge is based on existing wheels requiring a change of tyres etc.
Does anyone know if they can charge this as they wont be supplying those 2 services due to the new wheels not requiring old tyres to be disposed of and the tpms/valves are brand new so do not require servicing. Thank you for any advice you can provide.

Clearly those services aren’t required so I’d tell them before them that before they fit the tyres. If they insist the charges are correct, walk away, go elsewhere. Personally I’d not use Kwik Fit

As above, really.  They shouldn't charge for unnecessary work but neither can you force them to fit the tyres without those charges.

Thank you - kwik fit were coming out best for the tyres and then national tyres the next best price - both have the charges for the services not required. If it was a couple of quid id let it go but at £40 its a lot for nothing and something i dont need.

What price are the tyres from Camskill?

If they are a good price buy the tyres then find a local fitter to fit and balance.  Or go to a local fitter with Camskill price and they generally price match.

What did they say when you told them you didn’t need those services ?

Have you actually spoken to Kwikfit or National Tyres?  If you are looking at on-line pricing it's no surprise that tyre disposal is included as most people will have old tyres to get rid of.

I think you're biggest mistake is taking your shiny new alloys anywhere near a Kwikfit. Find a recommended, independent tyre fitter.

Ask them - but if it's a deal, that deal price might only apply to someone taking all the services.

Just as if it's a "Buy one get one free" deal you can't just ask for one for half price.

Which/what indy fitter are you referring to?

I've used Kwift in the past and the last time was for Mrs Diy's little car - they checked the brakes, cleaned them, drove the car and reassured me the noise i heard was due to car standing around for weeks after the rain and a bit of driving and braking would remove the noise and it did. Not all places like KW/Halfords etc are poor just like Indys and not all are good but just to say to go to an "independent" place is not helpful.

Like most places, it is down to the fitter on the whole what and how they do it
I recall visiting a an indy that specialised in tracking would you believe it.
They adjusted a little tracking but  the next day i noted a slight clinck as i went over small speed humps in a long, quiet road and i opened the windows and noticed it more. This so-called indy was near my home and recommended by a mate but as I was closed to work I went to halfords that I had used many times for brakes and oil changes and told them re clink and had just had the tracking adjusted. Straight awat they indefinite a loose nut and the problem solved and no charge.

I was busy as working and a couple of days later as I went to their place and told them and got the response "ok" - no sorry etc and I turned around and wlaked out - this was about 12 years ago and the outfit is still around. What I should have done is left a negative review but as i was bust/worn out did not bother

Therefore, just saying visit an "indy" as opposed to a well-known place, I'd beg others to treat it with caution.

OP, check reviews and not jst any reviews but especially for tyre changing as many reviews are unrelated to the work you want to be done and often relate to general serving, quotes, enquiryies etc.

What I have done is sop around online for tyres and bought a package ie bought tyres and home fit and or bought tryres from A and had fitted at home by B - good service as I always check reviews etc but at times things can still go wrong but we great feedback they often sort out any problems encountered. Alwsy seek fitting price in vAT etc all in
