    Your doctor is right. The fit note is to cover you while you are unable to work. They do not provide notes as a rule to say that you are fit to return to work because the presumption is that you either get another fit note to stay off, or for light work, or you simply go back when your fit note runs out.

    The fit note simply does not have a return to work option on it. You need to point your employer at this;

    If they are unsure they need to get advice from occupational health if they are signed up to a scheme.

    You haven’t answered though what information you were given post surgery about the amount of time you should take off?
    All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

    Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    So what is the box, being fit to return with adjustments all about?

    Phased return, amended duties etc.

    The OP no longer seems to be asking about any adjustments. My answer was on that basis, for which a fit note would not be provided.

    You need to sort the adjustments out before you go back. From your employers point of view you're returning on a given date fully fit to resume work. They need to know you're not in advance.
  • Why have you edited your OP? It makes some of the answers seem odd when the information they are referring to is no longer in your post. It's poor forum etiquette and not a good way to get further responses.
