Just found this challenge via the new Advent calendar
I initially wasn't going to sign up, as I didn't see the need to save up for Christmas - I don't spend much on presents for family these days (no longer have young children at home), and don't buy much in the way of 'special' grocery items until they go into the sales on 26th
But then I thought again.....
This year I've been buying toys, games, small craft items, and colouring/activity books (with pencils, crayons and sharpeners) when I've seen them on good offers, and am about to drop off 4 boxes of items to a Christmas appeal - from where they'll be donated so that children who would otherwise get nothing have something to open on the day.
This year I aimed to put a couple of £s a week to one side, but my hand written notes of what I'd spent went missing - so I've lost track of where I got to.....
For 2023 I was looking to work on 50p/day starting today. The items need to be dropped off late Nov/early Dec, so this is the only way I can do it for a full year. That would make for an annual target of £182.50So I'll round it up to £200, which includes some items I have surplus of from this year (I bulk bought pencil sharpeners for starters!). That should cover a reasonable number of gifts, as I think only a couple cost more than £5 (and nothing was more than £7). Even the activity packs I've put together (a colouring or activity book, pack of crayons, pencil, pencil sharpener and small craft item in a plastic bag carrying the 'to avoid danger of suffocation' warning) work out at no more than £4 each. But as I'll be buying bits through the year I'll never actually have that amount in a tin / purse / envelope / bank account at one time, so I shall start a spreadsheet where I'll keep track of everything I spend - and what I want is to see is the total spend reach that figure by the end of November 2023. When I'm not finding things I think are worth purchasing I shall put any money allocated but not spent to one side (probably into a savings account I don't use regularly) for when I do see things. If 2023 goes anything like 2022, I'll be picking up bits through January & February, then it'll quieten down until August when toys seem to go into a sale again, and then the final bits will be picked up early November. It's also impacted by the fact I only go near a retail park or high street about once every 6 or 12 weeks, and I don't see many options between those visits although I have been trawling Amaz0n deals the last month or so and may do that a little more often.

I know a few of us have enjoyed doing this challenge over the years so I thought I'd host it again this year, please let me know if someone else has already started, if not here we go
The Aim: To save a £1 a day from 1st December 2022 to 30th November 2023. How you save your £1 doesn't really matter, whether it be a £1 in a tin, an on-line account or anywhere else that suits you.
We will open our tins or have access to our accounts on 1st December 2023 and declare total amounts saved.
Then it's spend, spend, spend for Christmas 2023 on whatever you like.
You soon get into the habit of putting a £1 a day away and just think this time next year you will have a healthy chunk of money towards the expense of Christmas
If you would like to join in pop your name down and the amount you are aiming for, I will allocate a number for you.
Please note, I have copied some of last year's information for the beginning of this thread. Thanks to all :A
Sealed pot challenge 2011 number 1406 .....Target £150 for Christmas
