How do I insure an empty property between exchange and completion?

    I had the same and found most will insure an empty property if you speak to them. Cost a bit more for some reason. Told me to call them back once i moved in and they would change the policy to occupied. Was all pretty easy from what i remember

    Mine was an ex-rental, empty for quite a while before I completed. I don't recall being asked / seeing anything in the insurance T&C's about the property needed to be occupied, nor was I asked if anyone was living in it prior to exchange. 
    Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

    Because empty properties are more likely to be broken into, have burst pipes, generally fall into disrepair…

    I bought an ex rental last year. I had a look at Aviva's policy information online, but couldn't work out whether their policy would cover me. I gave them some details, including how long the property had been empty and when I'd last visited it, and got an email back within an hour or so to say that they would give cover at standard rates so long as I moved in within 30 days of completion.
    I've no idea if Aviva usually offer cover in that scenario - but I was happy to rely in their written confirmation that they would provide cover to me in my specific circumstances.
