Bought Car, but Documents seem fake!
Hi all. Desperately need some advice!
We bought a car (privately) a couple days ago, Before viewing/buying I did a full hpi, which was clear and matched the last four digits of the vin/chassis number given by hpi (mycarcheck) company, checked mot history, checked gov taxed info. Everything seemed okay and genuine. After bringing the car home, I insured the car and checked if the tax was still valid on the car (it was). I then thought I would now tax it myself, this is when things started to go wrong... on the dvla website it said the document registration number from my green new keeper slip didn't match the car number plate they have on the system. That's all they would tell me, they can't confirm if the buyer is the same as the details I have. So my husband took the new keeper slip to the post office to ask them to scan it and tax it that way. This also didn't work, as they said it would not scan and the barcode isn't working!? I am now very concerned we have a fake new keeps slip, so I guess the whole log book was fake, as the person we bought it from isn't answering any of out calls or responding to any texts. He was supposed to give me the second key, but said he would have to post it! He said he would register the name change online right away, this has not been done!
Can anyone let know, what is my situation and can I do anything if I am right and there has been some fraud done on the car?
Thank you in advance for any help....

Does the reg plate on the car match the reg number on the V5 and is it a private type plate? If it is I'm wondering if the seller put the plate in retention which would result in issues with details not matching.
That said did you buy the car from a house which matched the address on the V5 and saw the seller go into the house? If you did I'd probably plan on going back to sort this out.
If you didn't then entirely possible there is something odd going on here and I'd contact police to see if they can do any checks for you.1 -

Have you looked at it's MOT history online, that should confirm reg details0

Op, did you actually go into the seller's property and or did you see him come out of the house/flat and I don't mean the communal door if it is a flat.
Did you see a purchase receipt from the seller that matched the current address? Are there watermarks as there should be on the newer logbooks not sure re old ones0
