    Have removed some below the middle area of the lintel and can see the original chimney sloping up and to the left

    You need acros and strongboys to prop up. You might need a catnic cn102 to go over the top of the new lintel into the wall to hold the gather.

    That sounds like serious work. The builder I had quote has said around £3500 to open it up, support and make good etc.

    It's not as hard as it sounds. Price does sound a bit high, but worth getting a few more quotes.

    Our builder charged us £4739+VAT for the removal and make good of a large chimney brest from ground floor to chimney pot. 1960s two storey house. Loads of replastering and of course retiling the roof where the chimney went through.

    Wow, ok, so this sounds alot. Got a second guy coming over tomorrow to take a look. It’s plain to see the breeze blocks have been added decades after the house was built, so I’m just keen to get an honest evaluation.
