Paying for staff support to accompany me on holiday just for the company.

Options
I can travel independently but like company when on holiday. my friends don't like travelling so don't want to go abroad. I like going abroad. I live in supposed living and I get staff support, if I take a member off staff I'm looking at £2400 for staff wages for the week plus the extra holiday costings. I do like the company but I don't really want to pay this amount again (I paid for staff support to Turkey this past June). I'm very capable of traveling alone but feel conflicted as I want to go with staff but its every expensive. Should I just grin and bear it or go alone?

    Only you can answer that.

  • Are there any other residents in supported living in similar situation? Maybe you could go together and keep each other company. Can the support staff get you in touch with someone like you?

So you purely want companionship? Do you want them 24/7 or more modest?

An employee gives you slightly more potential for action if they didn't keep up their end of the bargain but I'd be surprised if you couldn't find someone willing to take a free holiday for less than £2,400 salary

Not anybody I know off. I don't want to join a specialist holiday company for people with disabilities as I think I'll be more able then them and don't like to be patronised which I've had people talk down to me before. If I go alone I can save a ton of money but I have nobody to talk too.

Would the person who is your deputyship.allow.you go away as surely that would mean you would need to control your finances which you say they claim you can not do.

I managed Sri Lanka in March just gone for 28 days with a £4000 budget for accommodation and livings costs including flights. I even purchased 2 gold rings within the 4k budget. I had an appointee with social services and they sent over the money for Sri Lanka. I managed really well. I can budget, that's why I don't understand why they are getting a deputyship, maybe incase I become mentally unwell? But I think if they say I can't have my money to go on holiday with staff or independently I will defiantly appeal it, I'm reluctant now as it has a positive effect on my benefits.
  • Maybe consider a group organised holiday, either travel there with them or join them once there - you could then choose how much of their company you wanted when there.
  • Have you considered a cruise?

Plenty of singles go on them and you do get to know people .

By how you are responding on here and the fact you can holiday alone (and manage a large budget) I am very surprised social services are acting as your appointee.

They will also be charging you for this pleasure.

How did this situation come about?
