Am I self-employed for tax purposes

I am retired but I do freelance work for the company I was working for, to help them out when they are resource limited. I choose the work I do and the hours I work. Whether I work or not is entirely my choice. I am paid an hourly rate for the work I do.

Does this make me self employed for HMRC?

How are you being paid? Do you get a payslip?

Determining if someone is an employee, worker, self employed, contractor etc is not a 100% straightforward exercise but a good starting point is asking your employer how they are treating you... if you get a payslip then you are effectively a zero hour contract employee

1- what does your contract of employment say (assuming you have one)?
2- how are you getting paid?
