To BT or not?

Hello all

I applied for the Barclaycard mentioned by Martin with the 14 month 0% offer. I have received card today but they have only given me an £800 limit.

I have an excellent credit history/score (checked last month) and was a previous student Barclaycard customer with limit well over 4K, that account was never in arrears and I never missed a payment, and was paid off and closed after I graduated uni.

I wanted to BT approx £1200.

Should I BT as much as is allowed (95%?) to Barclaycard and pay off x amount a month and hope they increase the limit to BT the rest in 2 months (when my current 0% deal ends) or ring them to discuss raising it?

If it comes to it then I'll BT what I can in Jan when the old one ends and transfer rest from savings to avoid interest but obviously I would rather not!

Any advice would be gratefully received

How exactly have you checked your credit rating and what makes you think it's excellent ?

Take what you been offered otherwise it will be a waste of a credit search. When you call to activate the card explain your BT requirement and and wait for the response. Most, but not all c/s agents have the authorisation to raise limits by small amounts (usually 10-15%) without referring to a higher authority.
For more significant increases you would usually have to write to them and possibly send supporting evidence of your ability to repay.
