Selling a Wedding

Hi, unfortunately my fiancée has decided she no longer wants to get married at the venue / date that we had previously booked, but I've paid the deposits for the venue and entertainment and would like to, if possible, try to recoup some of the amount spent by selling the wedding and entertainment.

Could anyone advise please if you know of anywhere that would be able to sell or list my venue and entertainment so someone else might buy it? I've tried www.canceledweddings.com but that site looks closed now and I've not had any acknowledgement from them.

I'd be really grateful for any pointers that you could give me! Many thanks, David

Have you looked at your contracts in relation the ability to transfer the booking? Or even cancellations?

Guess the best option is going to be posting on local Facebook groups for the area that the venue is in.

Hi DullGreyGull, yes. Neither contract says anything about not being able to sell or transfer the bookings. So assuming that it doesn't say that I can't, then I can.

have you asked the venue, if they can resell the date then you may get a refund less a bit for admin?

Hi, no I haven't, but I'll certainly see about giving them a call, it's planned for June 2024 so we'll see.

Maybe best not to mention fiancée not happy with the venue.

I'd be shocked if those you paid the deposit to give it back as years ago when one of our kids was going to get married we booked a package via a then well-known co that specialised in Asain weddings - we canceled about 9 months before the date and they were polite and feed us a load of BS and we did not get a penny back of our several k deposits. My fault is I did not look into the possibility of canceling and or insurance cover for that.

It hurt as no one wants to lose a penny never mind sever k's and we are by no way defined as rich but always been ok,
If they had been honest from the start rather than feed me bs it would have been easier and their office etc was miles away from where we lived and we worked it was not worth the stress and effort to go over ad ask them that an outfit that claimed to be dealing with dozens of weddings around canary wharf hotles could not sell the venue to another in 9 months - crooks they were.

Did she agree to booking them in the first place?  If so, tell her she's liable for the lost deposits and see if she changes her mind.
