We are EDF and have been for a few years smart meters were installed so we can keep an eye on energy consumption the engineer who fitted them informed us the in built sim card does not work to send readings with various on line chats with EDF i was informed that it was a first generation meter and it was the communications company that was at fault i have asked for a newer meter but have been refused how do i get forthcoming reduction of £100 as it is only for smart meters ? as ours does not work help

EDF CS is only partly correct. All SMETS1 meters are going through an enrolment/adoption process to enable them to connect to the DCC Network. This is being done in tranches and should be complete by the end of this year - but don’t hold your breath. If your meter cannot be updated with an OTA firmware update, then the supplier will replace it.
Suppliers are not permitted to replace working SMETS1 meters.
As far as the energy savings are concerned, you could switch to a supplier that deployed your make and model of SMETS1 meter. Who is the meter manufacturer/model?
