Money off energy scheme

Will be difficult to reduce stuff further during the peak, but as long as there's at least a days notice we can at least plan a meal that uses the slow cooker in the morning rather than using all the energy in the half hour before we eat.

I am not sure what point you are trying to make? As they are basing usage calculations on 30 minute data, then a smart meter is a pre-requisite which is what I suggested in my post. The important thing that isn’t being emphasised is for this to work, the smart meter must be set to a 30 minute profile. Not all smart meters are and consumers may have to change their meter profile.frugalmacdugal said:Dolor said:
How could they? The scheme is not only designed to reduce demand but to do so at times when supply is close to demand. If it is of any comfort, people with solar and batteries are also unlikely to benefit from the scheme.frugalmacdugal said:Hi,here's another scheme, LOOK, seems the anti smart meter folks don't qualify.Hi,did you read the link,However, only homes with smart meters will be able to take part.
FWiW, I don’t think that it is fair to suggest that this scheme is in anyway targeted at the anti-smart meter cohort. Consumers with smart meters that don’t communicate are also excluded as are those that want a smart meter but cannot have one due to connectivity issues. Yes, the scheme might encourage smart meter take up but the primary aim to to match avaIlable supply with demand by reducing demand at critical times.2 -
Also, not everyone who doesn’t currently have a smart meter is part of the conspiracy theory brigade - we have shied away from one for a while as we’ve tended to be with “companies of uncertain solidity” as regards the possibility of them going bust, and us being SOLR’d. As we are E7, the risk of being SOLR’d to British Gas having had a SM fitted was not one we were prepared to take!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

We are not either, just haven't wanted to risk anything going wrong when we have a perfectly functioning, simple, easy to read single rate meter. Haven't needed to fix what isn't broke …EssexHebridean said:Also, not everyone who doesn’t currently have a smart meter is part of the conspiracy theory brigade - we have shied away from one for a while as we’ve tended to be with “companies of uncertain solidity” as regards the possibility of them going bust, and us being SOLR’d. Now we're contemplating it, but at the same time if it ended up not communicating then it would defeat the object of wanting one to take full advantage of ToU tariffs/incentives, and be hassle for nothing.2 -

Perhaps you might point out where either Spoonie or I have said “it’s not fair…” etc? Indeed, I actually said in a previous thread on this subject that whilst it was interesting, even if we DID have smart meters our peak time electricity use is low low the chances of us being able to save enough to qualify would be practically zero!Alnat1 said:Risk, hassle, don't fix what isn't broke........

I am also considering one now given this scheme, wonder how quickly I could get it installed. If I do get one and it communicates will all smart meter users be part of the scheme?

Sorry @EssexHebridean, wasn't meant to be aimed at anyone in particular.
It was meant as a general comment at those who have avoided smart meters in the past but now suddenly realise that they may be missing out.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

I got them fitted yesterday. I still can't join the scheme because now I have no history. I'm hoping that in a couple or three weeks when some history has been laid down, I'll be accepted. I'll be late to the party but hopefully will get there eventually. There was a dodgy moment yesterday when he looked at the old meter and said there might not be enough space but in the end all went well. It took a long time for me to actually get offered an appointment so I'd say to get yourself on the waiting list and see what happens.Ms_Chocaholic said:I am also considering one now given this scheme, wonder how quickly I could get it installed. Fair enough - And yes, I wonder how quickly some of the former conspiracy theorists might decide the lure of some filthy lucre is more attractive than following their cult leader of choice! (And they call US sheep?) 😂Alnat1 said:Sorry @EssexHebridean, wasn't meant to be aimed at anyone in particular.
