Estimated readings and change of meter

My electricity supplier has been using estimated readings for my account for several years, currently I have paid for hundreds of units more than I have used. A meter reader visits every quarter and I have phoned in meter readings several times but they don't use them. Now they have to change my meter as it has reached the end of its life but I'm concerned I'll be stuck paying for the unused units.

I run a small business and have wasted hours on the phone trying to resolve this and other billing problems. Any advice appreciated.

The installer will note the reading showing on the old meter before it is removed. He/she will also leave a sticker with this reading on your new meter. The old meter reading will be sent by a data flow to your energy supplier so it can close down your present account. As insurance, take a photo of the meter which shows both the index reading and the meter serial number.

Very important tip - if your actual read on the old meter is very much lower than their computer estimated read, then they may reject the fitter's final reading , meaning that you will lose out on the overcharged units and have to raise a complaint ( been there myself with a switch of leccy meter).

Are you on a business rather than domestic tariff ?

Who is your supplier?     Have you escalated the problem beyond their Customer Support and put your complaint in writing ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
