Gas smart meter installation

Not sure if this or the Energy forum is the best place for this.
I've been in two minds as to whether get smart meters installed and I know it may sound like a silly question but does a gas smart meter require a power supply. The reason I ask is my current meter is on the outside wall on the other side of the house to the electric meter and is pretty inaccessible from the inside due to the sealed staircase being in the way.
Another thing putting me off is that I could run into difficulties because there's no earth bonding visible, certainly not in the cabinet, and whilst I'm 99% it's there on the inside as I can see an earth cable leading out toward the direction I can't physically see and therefore confirm where it's connected.

The smart meter runs on internal batteries no power supply required.
The bonding will be inside the building should be within 600mm of where the gas pipe enters the property under current regulations but depending on when it was installed might not be0 -
I get that but my worry is if it can't be visually inspected then I'm worried I could be in trouble and they could condemn my meter.Lomast said:The smart meter runs on internal batteries no power supply required.

Smart gas meters have an internal battery which should last ten years or more. No connection to the mains is required. Highly unlikely the fitter would be bothered about the earth bonding - My gas pipe has none, and nothing was said when I had smart meters installed.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Checking bonding is an electrical regulation issue the gas meter installer won't care1

AFAIK, if the gas mains pipe coming to the house is plastic, no bonding is needed.
